Multiply Integers Using a Number Line

Model integer multiplication as repeated jumps from zero, using the sign of the jump size to decide direction.

Let's start

Multiplication as jumps

On a number line, a multiplication such as 4 x -12 means start at 0 and make 4 equal jumps of -12. The first number tells how many jumps; the second number tells the size and direction of each jump.
